Opposition parties tasted sweet victory on Friday as the government buckled under pressure to amend its sugarcane ordinance.
It will bring forward a Bill that will allow states to fix a higher price for sugarcane than that fixed by the Centre without having to own up liability for the price difference.
Ending the impasse in Parliament, an all-party meeting convened by the government this afternoon agreed upon the formulation that top UPA managers arrived at last night ensuring that states would not end

Technical Employees Association of Railways (TEAR) today called for a protest on November 23 to demand pay scale at par with the technicians of other departments.
National President of TEAR J P Mishra said non-technical employees are getting higher pay scale than the technical employees in Railways and the pay scale is also lower than the pay scales of the technicians in other departments like Doordarshan and All India Radio.

Bowing to angry protests from opposition parties and farmers, the government Friday agreed to restore the earlier sugarcane prices.
The issue was resolved at an all-party meeting convened by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who is also Leader of the House in the Lok Sabha.
The government has also decided to bring in a new bill on sugarcane pricing in parliament.
The farmers will get a price higher than the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) -Ajit Singh

Parliament was paralysed for the second successive day today by a defiant Opposition which forced adjournment of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha till Monday demanding a hike in sugarcane purchase prices.
Demanding repeal of the Sugar Control (Amendment) Order which enforced uniform price of sugarcane at Rs 129.84 per quintal across the country, the entire Opposition led by BJP disrupted proceedings in both the Houses, dubbing the last month's order a "black law".

The winter session of parliament got off to a chaotic start on Thursday with the Lok Sabha being adjourned for the day as the entire opposition united to stage noisy protests against the new sugarcane pricing policy.
As soon as the session began, chiefs of Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Lok Dal Mulayam Singh Yadav and Ajit Singh, respectively, led their party members into the well of the house over the issue leading to pandemonium.
